Introduction to ISCC Certification
ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) is a globally applicable comprehensive certification system designed to promote sustainability and carbon emission reductions in biomass materials, renewable energy, and recycled materials. ISCC certification covers the entire supply chain of biomass, from raw material production and processing to the use of final products, ensuring compliance with standards of environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic sustainability. ISCC certification scopes include:
ISCC EU: Mandatory certification for bioenergy entering the EU, compliant with the Renewable Energy Directive RED II, applicable to all operators in the biofuel supply chain.
ISCC PLUS: Voluntary certification, an independent third-party verification system, applicable to markets outside the EU for biofuels, as well as bioenergy, food, feed, chemical/technical applications, various agricultural and forestry materials, waste and residues, non-biological renewable energy, and recyclable carbon materials and fuels.
Advantages of ISCC Certification
1. Ensures that the production of bio-based materials and renewable energy does not adversely impact ecosystems and biodiversity, while adhering to principles of social responsibility such as ensuring labor rights and land use rights.
2. Reduces the carbon footprint across the entire supply chain by optimizing production and processing processes.
3. Enhances supply chain transparency through comprehensive record-keeping and monitoring systems, enabling full traceability of products from source to end-user.
How to Obtain Certification
Kaixin Certification can provides an accredited certification against the ISCC standard. Clients and customers willing to undergo certification needs to complete the application and contract agreement process following which initial or re-certification audits will be carried out. Once the certificate is issued (with a 1 year validity), further surveillance audits will have to be carried out at pre-defined frequencies to maintain the validity of the certificate.
